The Walt Disney World has been making big strides to the newest upcoming system known as Genie+. FastPass+ is now a thing of the past, and those queues have now been made into Lightning Lanes!

With a new system, comes a bit of confusion, as Guests of the resort were more accustomed to the FastPass+ system. But seeing as these Lightning Lanes have been popping up throughout all four parks, it’s time to get a little more acquainted with them. Don’t fret, however, we are here to break it down for you!
Sneak Peek: E-TICKET ATTRACTION BOARDING GROUPS ARE ABOUT TO CHANGE IN A BIG WAY
In comparison to the FastPass+, Lightning Lanes will be a bit of a learning curve. Also, keep in mind that what we know about Genie+ is still limited. Disney has yet to fully release all of the details for the system. However, if you have any experience with the Disneyland MaxPass, you may have a bit of an advantage. As it seems as if the Genie+ service was heavily influenced by it. MaxPass tested a theory of: are Guests willing to pay for a FastPass per Guest, per Day? And at, initially, $10 a pop, Guests definitely were willing. Eventually, you could add it to your monthly payment of your Annual Pass and that was great! Hopefully, Genie+ can reflect the same future as the MaxPass.
Now, FastPass+ entrances are getting new signage. But Lightning Lanes will still be on the left side, and stand by will still be located on the right. Mainly, it’s the service itself that will be different. Think of having Genie+ service as having a virtual paper FastPass. But, to obtain the Genie+, you will need to purchase the service for $15 a day.
However, there is another option. Guests do have the option to do individual selections when it comes to attractions. This option allows you to pay for up to 2 individual attractions per day. This will be an interesting choice, as we have not seen how individual attractions will be priced, but we speculate that prices will fluctuate depending on the day.
Once we know more and the closer we get to the Genie+ program release, everything will become much clearer. For now, it’s important to remember the following: every queue will have a stand by option, some attractions will have Lightning Lanes, and prices for individual ride selections are currently unknown.
Not to worry, we will keep you informed on the latest as it develops! Stay tuned!
