
On Friday night, fans at Disney’s D23 convention were treated to a showcase presentation. The three-hour-long panel offered news and reveals about the company’s upcoming theatrical projects.

Moana 2
The D23 panel started with a bang by discussing the upcoming sequel to the hit 2016 movie “Moana.” Auli’i Cravalho came onstage before Johnson and kicked off D23’s first session tonight with a live performance featuring Hawaiian dancers of the Moana 2 song “Who We’re Meant to Be.”
Dwayne Johnson promises fans will love new characters introduced in the sequel before showing a teaser trailer to attendees.
Moana 2 is set to hit theaters November 27th, 2024.

Mufasa: The Lion King
Another theatrical release coming out this year is a follow-up to the 2019 live-action Lion King movie.
“Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.”
Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters on December 20, 2024.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
A new trailer for the live-action Snow White movie debuted at the D23 conference.
The new Snow White, Rachel Zegler and the new Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) were both on hand at D23 to address the crowd.
Directed by Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”), “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” features a reimagining of the original 1937 animated film.
The theatrical release date is March 10, 2025.

Lilo & Stitch
Get ready to go on a Hawaiian rollercoaster ride next summer! Walt Disney Studios revealed the first look at the live-action reimagining of the beloved 2002 animated film. The short teaser showed the first footage of the CGI version of everyone’s favorite blue alien AKA Experiment 626.
Lilo & Stitch stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo, and Chris Sanders as returning as the voice of Stitch. Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis round up the cast.
Lilo & Stitch surfs into theaters in Summer 2025.

TRON: Ares
The stars of TRON: Ares Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto appeared on stage at D23 to share the first look at the film for attendees only, and discuss the film. It was also announced that Nine Inch Nails will be contributing music for TRON: Ares.
According to Walt Disney Studios, TRON: Ares “follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”
The movie will debut in theaters October 10, 2025.

Zootopia 2
The sequel to the Oscar-winning 2016 movie will see the return of Mr Big, Clawhauser and Flash the Sloth. Ke Huy Quan is joining the cast of Zootopia 2 as a snake named Gary, star Ginnifer Goodwin announced during Friday night’s Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23.
The film is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 26, 2025.

Avatar: Fire and Ash
The D23 panel featured James Cameron and he revealed the name of the third film in the “Avatar” series.
After The Way of Water took things under the sea, the next chapter in Cameron’s five-part sci-fi epic heads to the volcanic regions of Pandora, where Jake Sully and his family will find that the Na’vi who dwell there are especially unfriendly.
Avatar: Fire and Ash has a theatrical release set for December 19, 2025.

Toy Story 5
The toys are back in town for a fifth movie installment.
Andrew Stanton will direct the next installment of the franchise. Speaking at D23, Stanton said this time around, the toys who have always been there for the kids will find their job cut out for them when they go head to head with electronics.
Toy Story 5 is primed to release summer 2026.

Incredibles 3
We are quite excited to hear a third Incredibles movie is in the works at Pixar! This project is a new announcement and it’ll be a while before more details are shared.
