We’re back with another foodie review with the Dorky Dad! This time we’re reviewing one of his favorite dining locations at the Disneyland Resort, Carthay Circle.

Credit: Disney

Carthay Circle is located in Disney California Adventure and is your portal to not only delicious dining, but to the glitz and glam that was old Hollywood. Upon entering the lounge, you are immediately transported to another time.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

This dining location reopened when the theme parks did during the global pandemic, but was only offering outdoor or Alfresco dining, with a limited menu.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

Now, Guests can dine inside and soak up the full ambiance and glamour that is Carthay Circle. But how do the two dining experiences compare?

Alfresco Dining-

This dining experience was put in place of in house dining, to comply with California health and safety regulations due to the pandemic. However, despite the slight difference in ambiance, the restaurant was still able to create a pleasant dining experience.

Credit: disneyparksdad

Alfresco dining at Carthay offers a lighter menu. This Dork does like the smaller bites menu, but really enjoyed the desserts compared to the regular dining desserts. Eric recommends the Double Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

When it comes to cocktails, they are very similar to the selection inside the restaurant. Although, keep in mind, that options are a lot more limited during Alfresco dining.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

In-house Dinner-

The Dorky Parks Dad says that dinner at Carthay Circle is very different from Alfresco service.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

He says that the meal is definitely worth the price. Eric ordered the steak and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly and even says the same about the pork chops.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

The one difference he noticed was that they do no offer complimentary bread. However, you can purchase a bread loaf for the table for only $10.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

Eric also loves the dinner service dessert , but recommends the Valrhona Chocolate Cream Puff.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

As far as the atmosphere and overall experience goes, the Cast Members were very attentive and check up on you often. Eric said that it really reminded him of the atmosphere inside Disneyland’s Club 33.

We think either way you slice it, whether you go to Carthay Circle Restaurant for dinner or for Alfresco dining, there’s plenty to enjoy!

Have you ever dined at Carthay Circle Restaurant at Disney California Resort? Let us know in the comments!

Welcome to the first of many Dorky Dad foodie reviews! If there’s one thing this dork knows, is where to find the best eats and drinks throughout the Disneyland Resort! We’ll even share his top dining tips!

Let’s start with brunch…

Lamplight Lounge Brunch (DCA)-

Credit: dorkyparksdad

The atmosphere is a big reason why everyone should dine at the Lamplight Lounge at least once! But, this Dorky Dad stays for their brunch that’s from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Trust this dork, you’re not going to want to miss this!

Credit: dorkyparksdad

Move over Lobster Nachos, because Eric says that brunch at Lamplight is always amazing. He even prefers it to their usual menu!

Credit: dorkyparksdad

The Indulgent French Toast is so delicious! The Lamplight Chilaquiles are to die for. And you have to try the incredible Brunch Burger that comes with a fried egg on top!

Credit: dorkyparksdad

After all that yummy goodness, wash it all down with Lamplight Lounge’s impressive Specialty Beverages.

Credit: dorkyparksdad

Eric highly recommends the Mimosa Flight, the Beermosa, and the Cinnamon Toast Cocktail! He really enjoys how this eatery carefully crafted these cocktails to pair perfectly with each meal! And it’s a 10/10 for us!

Credit: dorkyparksdad

So rise and shine and make your way over to the Lamplight Lounge for brunch! You won’t regret it!

Have you tried brunch at the Lamplight Lounge in Disney California Adventure? If you have, what’s your favorite dish to get? Let us know in the comments!

There’s nothing quite like a Disney Cruise! The Disney Cruise Lines are currently booking itineraries out through 2022. These beautiful and massive liners are now in full preparation to welcome back Disney fans and families.

Disney Imagineering Germany is responsible for designing and constructing new cruise ships for Disney Cruise Line. And for the past few months, Imagineers have been working on and building the Disney Wish.

Credit: Disney Parks

Now that the Disney Wish is reaching its completion, the Imagineers are sharing updates on how construction is going.

Also known as “the bridge”, the wheelhouse is an integral part of the ship and has to be designed and crafted very carefully. The wheelhouse has to be fully functional as this is where the captains and officers command the ship from.

Credit: Disney Parks

The wheelhouse is part of a larger installation of large and wide block. With the installation of this piece, the entire foreship will be complete.

Next for the Disney Wish is the bow installation. This impressive bow will feature Minnie Mouse.

Credit: Disney Parks

The piece is just one of 100 pieces, but the tip of the bow itself weighs a shocking 500 metric tons! The installation and welding of the bow block took about 10 hours. Only 30 more pieces of bow block will be installed over the next few weeks.

The Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Wish will be ready for its maiden voyage in June 2022?

The new California Neighbor Pass offers over 175 available days spanning over a 9 month period. These days even include over 25 weekend days.

This is a great option for locals. And it is valued at only $159. This pass, just like the others, will offer 10-15% discounts at select CityWalk locations and even discounts on the upcoming Halloween Horror Nights.

Remember that Universal Studios Hollywood may require a reservation for your theme park visits. This means that you will need to have your valid annual or seasonal pass along with a confirmed reservation date in order to enter the park.

The Disneyland Resort has been officially reopened for months now and has been successful in doing so. Although not every experience has returned after the grand reopening, until now! Disneyland will soon be adding more dining experiences that have been missed. And, yes, this includes character dining!

Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures-

This dining experience is a fan favorite for anyone who wants to start their day off right and feeling like royalty. The Grand Californian Hotel’s Napa Rose will once again be offering their Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures!

Not only does this dining experience offer a fantastic breakfast selection, it also offers princess-themed activities and a keepsake souvenir to take home! Before you dine, Disney Princesses will invite you for a special photo opportunity on a private patio.

This select dining experience has a great breakfast menu and even a lunch menu. Guests can choose from items like princess waffles to house-made mac n’ cheese and lots more in between. And to finish off your royal meal, princess cake pops and other delightful desserts will be available.

Booking for this magical dining experience begins on August 11, and Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures will make it’s royal debut at Napa Rose beginning August 26.

Minnie & Friends- Breakfast in the Park-

Another Disney fan favorite will also be returning to Disneyland, and that is Minnie & Friends- Breakfast in the Park. Upon the park’s reopening, this crowd favorite was noticeably missing, as were a lot of breakfast options. Also noticeably missing was the lack of character dining, until now.

Join Minnie and some of her famous Disney friends at the Plaza Inn while you enjoy some classic breakfast favorites. Guests can enjoy Mickey waffles, along with biscuits and gravy, made-to-order omelets, a selection of hot and cold cereals, and a selection of delicious pastries.

Even though character dining is returning to the Disneyland Resort, it might look a little different. Characters will be around to wave and snap a quick photo, but they probably won’t linger for too long. Make sure you check out Disneyland’s helpful “Know Before You Go” guide when it comes to dining.

Minnie & Friends- Breakfast in the Park at the Plaza Inn will reopen on August 12, with booking beginning August 11.

Goofy’s Kitchen-

This Disneyland Hotel staple is ready for reopening! Unfortunately, for this dining location, Goofy and his friends won’t be making an appearance until a later date.

However, Guests can still enjoy this location’s great breakfast and dinner buffet menu! With all you can eat Mickey waffles, a carving station, and a variety of delicious desserts, you can’t go wrong.

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar-

Another Disneyland Hotel favorites, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar is a great dining location for any adventurer’s taste buds. The Tiki Bar will now be taking reservations for lunch and for dinner starting August 11. The first reservation date available will be August 15. Aloha!

Carnation Café-

This Disneyland classic will finally be reopening on September 16! This dining spot is home to Walt’s favorite chili, the famous fried pickles, and some delectable milkshakes! You definitely don’t want to miss this reopening. The Carnation Café is located on Main Street, U.S.A at Disneyland and they are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Storytellers Café-

This location is not reopening, only because it just had it’s grand reopening in July of 2021. At this café, Guests can enjoy Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet. Not only is the buffet selection incredible here, you might run into some familiar faces. Mickey and his friends make their appearance during this breakfast buffet and even during their brunch buffet, which is equally incredible!

It’s not wonder that the Disneyland is following suite with other modified character dining locations, due to the success of Storytellers at the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. This gives us hope for more character experiences dining and other in the future!

If you’re planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, there are a few important things to keep in mind. We’re not just talking about the do’s and don’ts or where to find the best Disney snacks. Although, snacks are important, there’s another thing to consider before visiting. Where are you going to park?

Parking at the Disneyland Resort has gone through some changes, but there’s no reason to worry, because this is the ultimate parking guide.

Anaheim Garden Walk-

anaheim garden walk exterior
Credit: Screenshot via Anaheim Garden Walk website

This Dorky Dad loves to park here. If you don’t mind a brisk walk. The current day rate for parking at the Anaheim Garden Walk is $25. What we also love about this parking structure is that it is covered. During the hot summer months, it’s nice to know that your car isn’t just baking in the heat.

Mickey & Friends/Pixar Pals Parking Structure-

pixar pals parking structure
Credit: dorkydisneydad

We love this parking structure a lot more when the trams are running, but it still has some great qualities. The convenience of having restrooms at the structure is nice, especially if you have had a lengthy drive.

pedestrian walkway from pixar pals parking structure
Credit: dorkydisneydad

But what we really enjoy about the Pixar Pals structure specifically, is the walkway that takes you to the Downtown Disney District. We like this walkway because it is predominantly shaded, unlike your other option, which is to walk the tram route.

Credit: dorkydisneydad

The only that we don’t necessarily love about this walkway, is that it currently leads you to the security check that’s adjacent to the Disneyland Hotel. Normally, Guests would arrive just outside of the Downtown Disney District sign. However, that side is now reserved for Cast Members only.

Parking for Mickey & Friends and the Pixar Pals parking structures is priced at $25 for standard parking and $30 for an oversized vehicle.

The Anaheim Hotel-

view of parking at the anaheim hotel
Credit: Anaheim Hotel website

This is a great option for all the early birds out there! The Anaheim Hotel offers park goers parking in their open lot, but it’s first come, first serve. So, that means that this option runs out fast! Especially because the Anaheim Hotel will offer special discounts for parking. And if you don’t mind a bit of a walk, this parking spot is a great choice!

Toy Story Parking Lot-

Credit: Disney

Although this isn’t the Dorky Dad’s favorite place to park at the Disneyland Resort, it does have some good offerings.

This parking location does offer shuttle bus transportation to the parks. This is great because as we have mentioned before, the Disneyland trams are not currently operating. It’s important to note that if you plan on using the shuttle bus, you must wear a mask while on board.

Another great thing about the Toy Story Parking Lot is that it caters to Guests with larger vehicles and those with extended trailers ($35).

Preferred Parking-

Credit: Disney

These parking locations all offer something great for park goers. But, then there’s Preferred Parking. We can’t help but indulge ourselves in this offering.

Sometimes it is just worth it for the sake of convenience. It can be a little pricey at $40. But if you do happen to purchase your standard parking ticket ahead of time on the Disneyland website, you can upgrade to Preferred Parking by paying the $15 difference. Trust us, you will love it!

Where’s your favorite place to park with visiting the Disneyland Resort? Let us know in the comments!

Disneyland fans, the wait is finally over! The Happiest Place on Earth has just unveiled their new annual pass program that will be replacing the Legacy passholder system. Disneyland’s Magic Key is the way of the future for park goers, and we have all the information on what to expect for the new pass!

What is the Magic Key Program?

This new system will put the keys to the kingdom in your hand as you are guaranteed reservations for your park visit. There are 4 Magic Keys with a handful of different offerings. Each differs in price, discount, experiences, and savings. This will allow you to choose the best option for you and your party.

Which Magic Key Should I Get?

Dream Key-

This key is valued at $1,399. This option allows Guests to reserve admission dates to either or both parks for the whole year. Guests will be allowed to hold up to 6 reservations at a time for different dates. Also included in this option is parking, 20% discount of merchandise, and 15% off select dining.

Believe Key ($949)-

This option also gives you the opportunity to hold 6 park admission reservations at a time. Guests who select this option will receive a 10% discount of merchandise and select dining. You will also receive 50% off parking at Mickey & Friends Parking Structure, Pixar Pals Parking Structure, and Toy Story parking lot (excluding blackout days)
Enchant Key ($649)- Although this option does not include parking or discounts on parking, it does offer 10% off select merchandise and select dining. Guests can hold up to 4 reservations at a time with this option.

Enchant Key ($649)-

Although this option does not include parking or discounts on parking, it does offer 10% off select merchandise and select dining. Guests can hold up to 4 reservations at a time with this option.

Imagine Key ($399)-

This key is the lowest of the tiers and is only being made available to Southern California Residents. Guests can hold up to 2 park reservations at a time, while still enjoying 10% off select merchandise and select dining.

How to Utilize the Magic Key Program

Credit: Disney
  1. Check the Magic Key Calendar to select the admission day that fits with the Key that you own.
  2. By signing into or creating your Disneyland account, you will be able to link your Magic Key by using the 18 number ID (that will be issued to you upon time of purchase) to link your Magic Key to your account.
  3. Select a date and theme park and reserve your admission.
  4. Review your date and park selection, then confirm.

Other Important Information

One important thing to remember, is that when making a reservation, you will still need to select which park you would like to start with if you are planning to park hop. Guests will be able to access their second-choice park after 1 p.m. and this will be subject to capacity.

In order to make accessing your Magic Key simple and easy, make sure you have the latest version of the Disneyland Mobile App downloaded to your smart device. Since you will already have your Magic Key linked, it will show up in the app and make entering the Disneyland or Disney California Adventure gates go smoothly.

It’s also important to recognize that having a Magic Key by itself will not grant you admission to the Disneyland Resort theme parks. Guests will need to have a valid Magic Key in addition to a confirmed reservation in order to visit the parks.

Monthly payment options will be available for California Residents. The California state resident will need to be at least 18 years of age with a valid ID.

For more information, visit the Disneyland website and don’t forget to grab your Magic Key when they are up for sale starting August 25!
